Urban Beats

Love to stroll for the city. I am extremely urban person, and I love the sound of the city. I kind of miss the overpopulated New York City before the pandemic.  Years ago, I went to an exposition in Montevideo, while working in a project related with Joaquin Torres García´s students. It was a Jose Gurvich´s museum in Montevideo´s downtown. While there, I happened to meet a magnificent piece of watercolor made by the artist in 1952. It said: “Ritmos de la ciudad”, that can be translated as “Urban Rythms” or “Urban beats”, and it was indeed inspired in the time he lived in New York City.  For some reason, everytime I walk throughout  the city, disconnected with the rest and just paying attention to the streets, the sounds, the core of the so called urban, I feel the beats of the watercolor piece  of the Uruguaian Gurvich. It is like feeling the city´s beat trough all my senses.
